How to Properly Make & Send a Report

After receiving numerous reports during my time moderating I have decided that it's time I create a guide on how to properly make a report. Often times users send reports that are not considered valid due to small details missing from the image(s) and so I hope to teach everyone the best way to report rulebreaking user(s) through these simple guidelines.

To get started

The necessary rules of reporting are:

- Any and all reports should be sent to a moderator or admin.
- Reports should never be posted in public threads or anywhere else but private message to an official FH staff member.
- The screenshot(s) provided should be unaltered.
- The username(s) of the offender(s) should be clearly visible on the screenshot(s)
- If there was bad behavior the behavior should be included with in the screenshot(s) ex: Buttswinging on user(s) etc
- If there was any foul language or harassment within the chat the chat should be included.
- Be sure that what you are reporting is actually against the rules. View In Game Rules Here


Other preferred details. (However not always necessary if above requirements are met):

- The offender(s) is clearly visible in the screenshots
- Numerous screenshots (The more screenshots sent the better since it allows us to examine and judge the situation better. Ex. In the case of a argument more screenshots allow us to better assess the conversation and understand who started what and why certain things were said or done.)

Now for examples explained in pictures

Here are some examples of invalid reports

In this case we are focusing on the character Purgatory as the offender/rule breaker.



In this first screenshot we see that this user has said "bad stuff" which in a real scenario could be swearing or some sort of harassment. While this screenshot shows the chat and the character it fails to show the username of this individual in either the chat or the background thus making this report on its own invalid since there is no way to know exactly who this user is in the chat by just a character name. The user featured in the screenshot also has no visible name tag.



This second screenshot features a similar problem as seen in the first screenshot. It shows the chat where a character named Purgatory said some "bad stuff" but it fails to show who the actual user that this character belongs to is. The screenshot also now doesn't even include any visible users in it making it even more difficult if not impossible to figure out who this user is.



This third screenshot now features the username of this character named Purgatory but the problem with this screenshot now is that there is no visible username within the chat to link the visible Purgatory character in the background to the one speaking in the chat. Perhaps there could have been another character named Purgatory out of shot who said bad stuff and the user featured in the background just so happens to have the same character name but was not the Purgatory who said the bad things. In cases like these it would be easy to confuse a situation more and thus this type of screenshot is also invalid.

Examples of a valid reports

Now with all these examples of invalid reports you must be wondering what are examples of a valid reports then and how do I take them myself? Here are examples of VALID reports.



This first screenshot features the username of this Purgatory character in both the chat and the background image. There would be no mistaking who this user is since the username of Purgatory is presented clearly in both places. If there was also bad behavior such as buttswinging on another user a screenshot of this style where the username is featured along with the action is ideal.



This second screenshot is also valid although it does not show the offender in the background. Since the offense is in the chat a screenshot of the chat with the username is more than enough to show who Purgatory was. If this was the case of bad behavior like buttswinging on users though the individual sending the report would need to include the user and their bad actions in the background or this image wouldn't serve much purpose.



(Refer to Lord Suragaha as the offender in this screenshot since I made a small mistake here) This third report is valid because: it shows the username in of the character along with the chat, features the character with the username visible in the background, and bonus it shows the individual's info box which also features the user's username.

Helpful Tips for Reports: How to get username(s) to appear in chat

While in game press the ESC key on your keyboard to open up the menu box. You should see two options listed as "Options" and "Quit". Press "options".



Under the Interface option scroll down to and select "Local Chat Name Type" and then proceed to scroll down and select "both".



This will enable the option to see both a person's character name as well as their username in the chat thus making it much easier to report a user.

Helpful Tips for Reports: Other ways to get someone's username into a screenshot

If you double click a person's name in the chat or double click their individual character a box should pop up with all their info including their username as seen below.

Helpful Tips for Reports: How & where to send your report(s):

Once you've gathered your screenshots and you're ready to report go to a site like tinypic.com or imgur.com and upload your screenshots to get the links you'll need to send in your report. Once you have your links log into the Feral Heart site and at the top click the "Staff" option to be directed to the Staff list page.





From there you may select the message option under any one of the mods or admin that you wish to send your report to. Paste your links into the message. (Direct Links & or BBCode are best). Also please try to send your report to only one staff member to prevent confusion. That is the end of this tutorial.

Now, I have never come across someone who has needed to be reported or brought to the attention of an admin or moderator, thankfully, but I think this is very helpful to those people who are unsure on how to report. Hopefully it'll make ridding the game of rulebreakers easier, quicker, and much simpler to the average game player.
